Walmart Website Advertises ‘Fat Girl Costumes’ So Some Idiot Is Definitely Losing Their Job Today
Just before 10 a.m. Eastern time this morning, Jezebel reported that Walmart had a section on their website labeled “Fat Girl Costumes.” Dozens of media outlets have picked up the story and people are tweeting at Walmart like crazy. The page is still up. This is such a slow-moving train wreck — it’s almost fun to watch.
The URL kind of makes it clear that this was no mistake:
Seriously? Whose genius idea was this? Walmart is the worst, and this is just another reason why. As I write this, they have finally taken it down. Look what shoppers are directed to instead now:
Hi. This is Walmart. We have zero items for your search of “Fat Girl Costumes,” but here are some related products – plus-sized costumes. That’s what you’re looking for right? Fat girl costumes? Oh, Walmart. Bless your heart.
As pointed out by a Twitter user, the page still on the mobile site:
Whoever thought this was a great idea was obviously the brains behind some of the other, equally offensive descriptions on the site. There’s Fat Tinkerbell, for example:
The description reads, “Tinkerbell really let herself go since she has been out of work for so many years! This year sport this hilarious Fat Tinkerbell Costume that will make you the show at any party.”
And here’s a plain old fat suit, so you can fat-shame whatever other character you can think of:
This one says, “Includes cloth-sagging bosom, belly and oversized rear end.” I can’t.
This PR nightmare couldn’t have happened to a better company. You suck, Walmart.
