Did We Need Glitter Beer? Well, We Have It Anyway, and I’d Totally Drink It

I’m a big fan of food crazes. I love food and drinks and trendy stuff. So the unicorn cakes and black breads and pink wines? Basically marketed directly to people like me. The newest food and beverage craze coming to your Instagram feed is really pretty and will get you drunk, which is all that matters, right? Glitter beer is popping up at breweries all over the place, and it looks as cool as it sounds.

Glitter beer is pretty and packs a punch!

I’m not entirely sure why this is happening, but I’m not going to question it. Breweries all over the country are adding edible glitter to their beers, taking them from blah to HELLO FABULOUS! According to Munchies, the trend is gaining in popularity. Bold Missy Brewery in Charlotte, NC is just one of the beer houses putting a little bling in their brews. Minocqua Brewing Company in Minocqua, WI is also making their own version of the sparkly elixir.

Over at Bold Missy, the brewers are paying homage to everyone’s favorite glitter queen, Lisa Frank.

Head brewer Carli Smith made a lemon and pink peppercorn saison for a party, and called it the “Trapper Keeper”.

Two Birds Brewing in Australia has an IPA dedicated to the late, great David Bowie. It’s name? Well, the Stardust, of course.

If you’re worried about peeing glitter, don’t be (sorry to disappoint you). The glitter used in glitter beer is the same stuff you find in all kinds of food, like cupcakes. It’s edible and breaks down in your system rather quickly. However, I gotta be honest, I’m a little disappointed that my pee won’t sparkle after I drink it. That would be a huge selling point, in my opinion.

So keep your eyes out for glitter beer coming to a brewery near you! I’m sure it’ll be all over your social media feeds in no time. After all, it’s all about the ‘gram, right?
