Finger Lickin’ Justice: KFC To Award $30K To Toddler Pitbull Attack Survivor

kfc pays medical bills of pitbull attackSometimes the internet does something that makes me think, “hey, I’m real sorry that I’ve been referring to you as a pit of depravity and horror.” Today, that thing is that the internet was able to bring so much attention to the douchelords  at a Jackson, Mississippi KFC who allegedly made Victoria Whilcher-a three-year-old who is recovering from a pit bull attack-leave the store, because her face was disrupting customers.

Apparently, there was enough uproar to warrant some attention, and then some recourse from the purveyor of fine crisped poultry products, and a spokesman for the company, Rick Maynard, told the AP on Sunday in an email that,

“As soon as we were notified of this report on Friday, we immediately began an investigation, as this kind of hurtful and disrespectful action would not be tolerated by KFC. Regardless of the outcome of our investigation, we have apologized to Victoria’s family and are committed to assisting them. The company is making a $30,000 donation to assist with her medical bills. The entire KFC family is behind Victoria.”

May I just say, “Yay!” because if you head on over to the facebook page that is chronicling this whole nightmare, Victoria’s Victories, you’ll find that their insurance company is giving them the shaft and the hospital bills, which are continuing to be racked up, now total upwards of $80,000 dollars. That, coupled with the new baby the Whilcher family just welcomed into their lives means that this family is likely feeling a whole lot of stress and pressure. It’s good to see the company doing the right thing in this case, unlike SOME companies (looking at you, JetBlue) who would rather hem and haw about what is and isn’t acceptable and then offer some insulting form of placation.

On top of that, another Mississippi KFC franchisee, Dick West, offered to give the family a “big KFC picnic”, saying, “I am sure KFC will make their finding public as soon as the facts are in. In the meantime, I offered to treat Victoria to a picnic because regardless of the outcome of the investigation, she has been thru more than any little girl should and I wanted to give her a special treat.”

Seriously. That’s the main takeaway right there; at the center of all of this is Victoria, who has already survived a horrific attack. She’ll be looked at with curiosity for the rest of her life, despite being such a sunny and adorable little girl. It’s hard for me to remember my daughter at that age, because it all seems like an eternity ago, but I would be devastated if anyone ever thought to treat her like that. No one deserves it. Maybe some chicken and a large sum of money can’t make everything right again, but it’s good to see people essentially saying, “Hey, this is total bullshit. Let me see what I can do to show you that the world isn’t made up of horrible people.”
