‘Shell-Shocked’ Wife Of Accused Etan Patz Killer Sensibly Ends Marriage

pedtro hernandezLast week, Pedro Hernandez was charged as a prime suspect in the 1979 murder of 6-year-old Etan Patz. Of course, everyone was eager to hear the details namely what would cause Hernandez to kill an innocent little boy. Turns out Hernandez, 51, is a family man he has a wife, Rosemary, and a 23-year-old daughter named Becky and, shockingly, he has no criminal record.

So you can imagine the complete and utter shock experienced by Hernandez’ family when they discovered the heart-wrenching news. Rosemary apparently knew nothing of her husband’s alleged past a chilling fact described by Emeterio Hernandez, one of Pedro’s 11 siblings. He tells The New York Post that Rosemary has since left Pedro and that she is “done.”

Rev. George Bowen, pastor at the church that Pedro, Rosemary and Becky regularly attended, echoed his sentiments. He called Rosemary “shell-shocked” and said she hasn’t seen or spoken to her husband since his arrest. “Rosemary and daughter Becky are completely emotionally devastated,” he told congregants during his Sunday sermon. ”My impression is that this came out of left field for them. There’s no way this woman knew.”

It’s really scary to think that someone can lead a double life like this, and I can’t even begin to imagine how I’d feel if I were in Rosemary’s shoes. (Can anyone, really?) That said, I’m not surprised to hear she’s leaving him. Of course, there are cynics among us who say she must’ve known all along, but I guess the details will come out soon enough in court. But if, in fact, this really did come out of left field, then Rosemary, and most certainly her daughter Becky, are just two more victims in this tragic, senseless murder.
