The Story Of This Terrified 10-Year-Old Will Make You Irate, Then You Will Burst Into Tears

shutterstock_131815613__1375621248_142.196.156.251A 10-year-old Connecticut boy was so scared of the speed at which his drunk father was driving that he called 911 from the backseat to ask the dispatcher if he thought jumping out of the car was a safer idea than remaining a passenger.

He called 911 from the backseat. The image of this makes me want to cry – and think horribly violent thoughts about his father.

Seconds after the call, his father, 49-year-old Owen Gilman, rear-ended a Jeep Grand Cherokee, sending it hurling down and embankment. The boy and his 12-year-old sister were both treated for cuts and bruises but thankfully weren’t seriously injured.

Can you imagine the despair and fear this child had to have been feeling to make such a desperate call?  The NY Daily News reports, “according to a police report of the boy’s 911 call, ‘he was considering jumping from the vehicle, as he considered this a better option than crashing at the speeds they were traveling.'”

It’s a miracle no one was killed. The father wasn’t injured at all. He’s being charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and other drug charges. He is being held on $250,000 bail. The drug paraphernalia found was a pipe filled with marijuana. Drinking, stoned and driving. Good call, Dad.

I’m sorry, this guy should lose all parental rights to these children. The thought of a 10-year-old feeling so unsafe that he had to desperately brainstorm ideas to save himself and his sister kills me. This father is lucky his children aren’t dead. The mother of the children refused to comment on the case. I’m assuming it’s because she is too busy trying to keep herself from killing this man to be able to even speak.
