Zooey Deschanel Was Bullied As A Kid By Mean Girls

zooey deschanel allure magazineZooey Deschanel may always play sunny and happy in her on-screen roles but the 31-year-old actress, known for her manic pixie temperament, says that she was relentlessly bullied at school as a child. Mean girls, she tells Allure magazine, caused her to cry everyday.

The star of the new series New Girl tells the publication:

“Girls [would] spit in my face,” Zooey says.”People were so mean to me, I’d cry every day.”

Perhaps it’s for this reason the actress steers clear of gossip websites, such as Gawker which she actually  tends to enjoy for the writing. However, Zooey says that she often encounters too many mean comments by readers and there is a chance that the writer is “undercutting” her in some way. As for her body image, it looks like the sprightly actress is not being bullied in that department. The blue-eyed brunette says that she refuses to identify as a “big girl,” even though most of the women who work around her are rail thin: [tagbox tag=”bullying”]

“Some people around me, they’re like 89 pounds,” she says. I’m not going to say I’m a big girl. I’m a very small person but I’m a healthy weight. That might be a little weird for Hollywood.

A “little weird” but definitely all the healthier for little girls out there in need of an alternative to the Kiera Knightleys of the world. The actress may have cried everyday, but given her on-screen successes as an off-beat woman, some mean words and spit in her face didn’t succeed in keeping her down.
