Claire Danes Is The Coolest New Mom On This Season’s Award Show Circuit
Claire Danes won another well-deserved award last night at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for her amazing portrayal of Carrie Mathison on the Showtime thriller Homeland. But even though she’s dominated this Awards scene when it comes to television actresses, the headlines concerning Danes seem to be all about another new role in her life, as a mother. And this talented woman’s awesome quips to all of the “post-baby body” and “adorable baby anecdote” nonsense has turned Claire Danes into my new favorite celebrity mom!
Last night, everyone was monitoring the new mom’s physique, making sure she had dropped enough baby weight to avoid taking the “Jessica Simpson Path,” which includes headlines blaring about imaginary stress and relationship issues. Thankfully, Danes’ thin stature seemed to bounce right back, even though she just gave birth to her son Cyrus a little more than a month ago.
Danes wasn’t having any of those obnoxious, “Showing Off Her Post Baby Body,” headlines though. She decided to throw in a quick Spanx mention during her acceptance speech, just to make sure everyone remembered that she’s still human and we should all be realistic about what we’re seeing on television.
During the “Tell Us About Your Cute Baby,” portion of her red carpet chit-chat, Claire didn’t give us the standard, “It’s a joy that you just can’t imagine,” filler. She told Giuliana Rancic,
“He’s getting fat. It’s very exciting. All the time on the boob is starting to result in growth. He’s getting rolls. He’s starting to smile. He kind of knows that I exist. That’s reassuring!”
Let’s check off the awesomeness here. She called her baby fat. She slyly mentioned “boob time.” And she downplayed the gushiness. It is the perfect answer to a standard new mom question.
Add all of this to the fact that she mentioned concern about “leaking” on the recent Golden Globes red carpet, and that she gives vocal support to working motherhood, and I’ve found my new mom crush. Oddly enough, it’s the same girl crush I had as a teenager when Danes was on MTV and Jared Leto wasn’t nearly as creepy.
