Celebrities You Didn’t Know Are Battling Medical Conditions
There was a time when famous basketball player LeBron James was accused by many of what’s known as “flopping”: falling over intentionally to make it look like he’d been fouled in some way by another player. James, currently a forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, made small news years ago by countering those accusations with a medical diagnosis: benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. BPPV is the most common type of vertigo, which is essentially short-term dizziness that is sometimes accompanied by a sudden lack of balance. In LeBron’s case, BPPV can cause him to fall unexpectedly, which lead to the charges of flopping. The disorder can’t be treated with medication and most cases don’t warrant surgery, so the best way to “treat” it is to know potential head and body positional triggers and try to avoid them.
