Man Allegedly Posts Threats Against Los Angeles Elementary Schools On Facebook, Promptly Meets Police

shutterstock_59224768In the wake of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, this is definitely not the climate to be joking around with Facebook threats to kids. But early reports indicate that this was indeed no joke. At least not according to what authorities found.

Associated Press reports that a 24-year-old man named Kyle Bangayan allegedly posted Facebook threats against LAUSD elementary schools and was promptly arrested. As of this afternoon, he is still in the downtown jail with bail posted at $500,000. Weapons, including rifles, a shotgun and handguns, were all confiscated when the man was arrested at his Pamona home on Sunday. Though, no weapons were found at Bangayan’s residence.

It is unclear at this time if the guns belonged to Bangayan or his father, who agreed to let his east Hollywood home be searched as well.

Police were reportedly tipped off by another resident who became aware of Bangayan’s Facebook status. All that we know about the status is that it referred to the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.

Cmdr. Andrew Smith told the outlet that police are always taking threats of this ilk “seriously,” but “even more so” since the fatal shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Glad to see that that police officers acted swiftly, restoring some sense of safety to parents and children following this epic and horrific tragedy.
