Woman Made Bomb Threat To Stop Mom And Bro From Flying

Tensions were certainly high around the tenth anniversary of 9/11 this past weekend but one Long Island woman took her anxiety to the extreme. Mary Purcell was concerned about her mother and brother flying on the eve of the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, and so she phoned in a bomb threat with the hopes of grounding their flight, reports Reuters.

The 37-year-old has since been arrested and charged with making a false bomb threat. She faces up to 10 years in prison. According to the report, Purcell initially told police she made the September 10 call simply to ask why the Southwest Airlines flight was delayed; she later admitted to making a bomb threat.

The good news is that airport officials took her threat seriously and informed the FBI. A bomb squad came in and searched the plane with bomb-sniffing dogs but nothing was found (it all caused a mere 15-minute delay). The bad news is that the world has gone mad. Or at least this woman has, anyway.

As parents, we all “get” the need to protect our loved ones, including our own parents and siblings. But this just takes it to a whole other (stupid) level.
