Bye, Bye Birthing Plan: Pregnant Woman Pulled Over For Speeding, Delivers Baby On Side Of The Road

Your childbirth story just got a little less impressive. I know, I know. You brought a baby into the world. That’s super awesome. But did you give birth on the side of the road after being pulled over by a police officer for speeding? No? Well some woman did and her drama makes your birthing ball issue or fainting spouse catastrophe seem more than a little tame. Let’s all take a moment and say a collective, “Oh my God,” for the new baby born in Belleville, Ontario this morning.

Around the office, we all decided that giving birth on the side of the road with a police officer for assistance has made it onto our lists of most terrifying labor and delivery stories ever. It’s right underneath being trapped in an elevator alone while going into labor. It’s right above a Kardashian-inspired home water birth that will become a reality TV special.

And if I had to guess, the story probably terrifies police officers just a bit as well. Never again will they want to pull over a pregnant woman. It won’t matter how fast she’s going. They’re just going to assume she needs to get someplace quickly.

The good news in this story is that both mom and baby and doing well. They’ve been transported to the hospital. The baby boy born on the side of the road has been named Dakota. I have a feeling that his mother is getting lots of pampering. And she’s hearing the phrase, “Oh my God,” from absolutely everyone she speaks to. Can you imagine calling around to your friends and family to tell them about your new baby and being able to say that you pushed the thing out yourself from the back seat of a car? Talk about bragging rights.

Also, I’m really hoping this mom gets a free pass on speeding tickets for the rest of her life. You just drive as fast as you need to, Miss.
