What Is The Title Of This Famous Portrait Of An 11-Year-Old?
Hint: it was the little girl’s nickname!
The portrait is entitled “Pinkie” — the family nickname for the 11-year-old Sarah Barrett Moulton. Her grandmother commissioned this portrait of her after she left Jamaica to study in England in the 18th century. About a year after the portrait was completed, Pinkie died tragically of whooping cough.
She has nevertheless been immortalized in this beautiful portrait by painter Thomas Lawrence, which currently hangs in The Huntington Library in San Marino, California.
