The Way This Dad Is Standing By His Wife During Her Cancer Treatments Has Gone Viral
“In sickness and in health” is a classic wedding vow, although most couples expect “sickness” to just be a stomach virus. Unfortunately, some couples are presented with much more serious health problems. Marci Newman of Temecula, California, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in October 2015. Her husband, John, has been a steady support for her through all of her treatments, and their teenage daughter Mackenna took notice.
A common treatment for thyroid cancer is radiation therapy, which requires the patient to spend extended periods of time in complete isolation to prevent others from being exposed to radiation.
After Marci’s latest radiation appointment, she isolated herself in her room, but John couldn’t stand to leave her all alone.
Honestly, I don’t know what’s sweeter, the dad for keeping his wife company, or the daughter for appreciating her dad’s sweet gesture.
Marci told BuzzFeed that her husband has been an incredible source of support during her cancer battle. “John goes to every doctor’s appointment, every blood test, every surgery, every radiation. And, as you can see, if he can’t be by my side he is as close as he can get!”
Twitter’s responses to Mackenna’s tweet have been full of gifs and heart emojis.
“The amount of love I’ve received is crazy and I didn’t expect any of it,but I’m so grateful,” Mackenna told BuzzFeed.
