Tom Cruise Has Had Enough Of Your Daddy Shaming, Sues Magazines Over Claims He Abandoned Suri

Tom Cruise sues magazine to the tune of $50 million dollars over claims that he has abandoned his 6-year-old daughter Suri since becoming divorced from his wife Katie Holmes. The lawsuits, filed against Bauer Publishing, owner of the magazines In Touch and Life & Style, were filed U.S. District Court in Los Angeles over In Touch’s July 30th cover story (”Suri in Tears: Abandoned by Her Dad”) and In Touch’s Oct. 1 issue which rehashed similar allegations. Good for Tom Cruise! I can’t imagine having stories like these published in the press about my relationship with my own children and I would fight back the same way. Despite the whole couch-jumping thing and the Scientology thingy where he may be involved with using lie detector machines to see if his carrots are lying to him, Tom Cruise has always seemed like a good dad to me.
From the New York Daily News:

In the complaint, a copy of which was obtained by the Daily News, Cruise charges that ”through his representatives, plaintiff has attempted to correct these fabrications by providing defendants with the true bacts before the lies went to press. But defendants have demonstrated that they have no interest in the truth, and will stop at nothing to push the sales of their tabloids, even if this means exploiting a defenseless six year old child on their cover.”

”Tom doesn’t go around suing people,” Bert Fields said in a statement. ”He’s not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he’s going to sue.”

In addition to a $50 million judgment, Cruise is also asking for punitive damages for invasion of privacy.

”Tom will undoubtedly give the money to charity. He always has,” added Fields.

Even if he doesn’t win his case in court, at the very least little Suri will one day grow up and know that her dad disputed these allegations and cared enough that he fought against the publishers of magazines who made these claims. ”It’s been 44 days (at press time) since Tom Cruise has been photographed with his daughter Suri, last spotted together at Disney World on Aug. 4,” began the In Touch cover story, and what does that have to do with how much time he spends with Suri? Just because that was the last time they were photographed together doesn’t mean he hasn’t spent time with his daughter. For all anyone knows they could have been having private tea parties and macaroni arts and crafts sessions behind closed doors where the paparazzi couldn’t snap the two of them having quality time. Divorce and dividing custody time between parents is hard enough without magazines making claims that a father has abandoned his daughter.

The fact that he would donate the money to charity just makes me like Tom Cruise even more. We all enjoy celebrity gossip and reading about how celebrities are just like us, they are just like us! Except for the gazillions of dollars and the fact our homes could easily fit into their garages, but I hate it when publications drag little kids into their stories to sell copies of their magazines. Tom Cruise is just like us! He feels the same way!
