Tennessee Judge Gets All Baby Name-Shamey At Mom & Tries To Force Her To Change Son’s Name

tennessee judge baby name change messiahThis is a totally absurd story about a judge in Tennessee who is trying to force a mom to change her son’s name because he she feels it is disrespectful to God. The mom named her son Messiah and I’m now totally curious as to what this judge would do if he she encountered a baby named Jesus because as everyone knows, Jesus is a very common name, usually used for boys. From 10 WBIR:

A Newport mother is appealing a court’s decision after a judge ordered her son’s name be changed from “Messiah.”

Jaleesa Martin and the father of Messiah could not agree on a last name, which is how they ended up at a child support hearing in Cocke County Chancery Court on Thursday.

That is when the first name came into question.

The name change was part of Judge Ballew‘s case; however, the parents did not think the first name would be changed.

Judge Ballew ordered the 7-month-old’s name be “Martin DeShawn McCullough.” It includes both parent’s last names but leaves out Messiah.

“The word Messiah is a title and it’s a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ,” Judge Ballew said.

Oh brother. I see nothing wrong with this name. The parents obviously liked the name and this is why they chose it. It isn’t offensive like the creepy racist idiots who named their sons Adolph Hitler and Aryan Nation.

Martin’s two older children are named Micah and Mason. She liked how the name Messiah sounded alongside the other two siblings and thought it was unique.

“Everybody believes what they want so I think I should be able to name my child what I want to name him, not someone else,” Martin said.

Judge Ballew said the parents will have to change the name on the birth certificate.

The mom plans to appeal the judge’s decision and it will go before the courts on September 17. The more I think about it, Messiah is a totally cute name and I hope this mom nicknames her son “Messy” if it fits his toddler personality. I really don’t think a parent should be forced to change their kid’s name just because a judge doesn’t like it, and it isn’t like they named him F____ Mc____face ______Head.

The judge’s first name is Lu Ann. I find this offensive. I’m totally unfamiliar with this spelling of the name. Someone make her change it!
