Teen Girl Surprised to Get No Sympathy From Police After Callinng 911 Because Her Parents Made Her Go on Vacation

Life is, like, totally unfair. Nobody understands how hard it is to be a teenager. You call 911 expecting police to come and rescue you from being forced to accompany your parents on a dumb family vacation, and they don’t even care! Not only do they not make your parents take you someplace cooler, they get all mad and tell you this is “not an appropriate use of 911” and to stop fucking around with emergency services resources. Oh my Lord, life is difficult when you are a teenager.

Teenagers can be great and wonderful people, full of surprising kindness and generosity. Occasionally, however, they can be surly brats.  According to The Star, last Tuesday police responded to a 911 call for help from a 15-year-old girl, but when they arrived at the scene in Trent Falls, Ontario, to find that the “emergency” was that her parents made her go with them to a rental cottage by the river for a family vacation, and she was pissed about it so she called 911 on them.

Police actually took the call seriously and say they investigated the scene and conducted separate interviews with the girl and all her family members to make sure the girl was safe and there was not anything going on that actually needed their attention, but they say there was not. It really was just a teenager who didn’t want to have to go on vacation with her parents.

”This appeared to be a case of a teenager being a teenager,” said Constable Stephen Bates. ”Although she perceived this as a real issue, it was not an appropriate use of 911.”

That’s what he said to reporters after the investigation, but behind closed doors he probably sounded like this:

Police seemed pretty annoyed by the waste of resources.

”Calls such as this tie up police resources which could impact the safety of others in the community who are in real need of assistance,” Bates said.

I mean, I get it, kid. I don’t want to go stay in a rental cottage with  my parents, either. The Trent River is supposedly a lovely, popular vacation spot dotted with rental cottages and bed and breakfasts. If you like hiking and nature and fishing and riding around on boats, you’d have a great time. If you don’t like that stuff, it sounds like bug spray and blisters and no good cell phone reception. But having to go on vacation with your family is not an appropriate use of 911 resources.

After giving the teenager a scolding for making a frivolous 911 call and wasting police resources, police went off to handle real problems and left her to her probably extremely embarrassed parents. There’s no report of what they’re going to do about it, but maybe they’ll decide to add a week to their cottage vacation.
