Tavi Gevinson’s ‘Rookie’ — The New ‘Subversive’ Website Your Daughters May Be Flocking To

Tavi Gevinson, the 15-year-old stylist who was first discovered for her fashion blog when she was 11 years old, has shared some details regarding her highly anticipated editorial project “Rookie.” Perhaps choosing the name for her fashion blog “Style Rookie,” the teenager spoke with Ira Glass about what the public can expect.

Known for her close relationship with Sassy editor Jane Pratt, Tavi dispelled rumors that Rookie would be a revamped version of the deceased publication or a “Sassy 2.0.” She described the project as being a website with an occasional accompanying print publication.

The Village Voice reports:

Sounding very much like a teenager and clad in black shoes with ruffled white socks, Gevinson told the audience that each month of the website will be like a different issue of a magazine. Prompted by Glass, she discussed the aim of the project, and whether or not it is geared toward girls pegged as alternative, saying, “We don’t want to preach to the choir.” She paused: “To the converted.”

“It will be subversive just in its honesty and the tone,” she said.

Judging by the young lady’s popularity with both her peers and fashion colleagues, adolescents and adults will no doubt be eager to see what the style prodigy has been up to. But judging by Tavi’s comments, Rookie shows promise as a frank publication for young girls who don’t exactly fall into marketing interests of tween-dom.
