Woman Sues Chuck E. Cheese For Promoting Gambling In Kids

A San Diego woman is suing Chuck E. Cheese for its ticket-dispensing arcade games or illegal gambling machines, as she calls them.

That’s right: Denise Keller, a mother of two who out of her own free will brought her daughters to the popular, kid-friendly restaurant chain is asking for $5 million. She claims she saw games that feature a device similar to a roulette wheel, which are based mostly on chance and that promote addictive behaviors in children.

According to the lawsuit, the games “create the same highs and lows experienced by adults who gamble their paychecks or the mortgage payment.”

Last we checked, Angry Birds had the same effect on both adults and children. It’s totally addictive and, who are we kidding, it’s based more on dumb luck than skill (my  theory is that if you play enough times, it lets you win). When the game starts agitating my son, his screen time is over. (It never occurred to me to sue its creator.)

Here’s a novel idea for Keller: if you don’t like Chuck E. Cheese, don’t go.
