Stadium’s Gorgeous New Nursing Suite Just Might Make You Want To Become A Baseball Fan

The main point of attending a baseball game in person is the excuse of having a few beers in the parking lot beforehand and then a cup or two of overpriced Miller High Life in the stadium. But if you’re a new mom with a baby to nurse, and you actually enjoy watching baseball for the sake of baseball, joining your friends and family for a trip to a game might not hold the same appeal. You have to at least partially abstain from alcohol consumption, and when it’s time to feed the baby, you have to huddle on a hard metal bench while juggling your boob and/or bottle; or worse yet, on a toilet.

Unless you live in Cincinnati, at least. The Great American Ball Park, where the Cincinnati Reds play baseball, has completed a number of upgrades and renovations in advance of the 2015 season, and one of those changes is a brand new nursing station. The area, sponsored by Pampers and built by Fischer Homes, a local building company, provides ample space and all the facilities baby-feeding might require. Oh, and also? It’s kind of gorgeous. Take a gander at these pictures and try not to feel bad that a ballpark’s nursing room is nicer than your living room.

Better still, even though it’s technically called the ‘nursing suite’, this is an inclusive space for both breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, and whatever other baby-related chores crop up during a baseball game:

The new Pampers Nursing Suite built by Fischer Homes is a private area open to all moms for breast feeding, bottle feeding and other child care needs. This space features comfortable gliders, a kitchenette with a sink, ice and refrigeration, a private restroom, changing stations and lockers for storing your items during the game.

As someone who grew up in Michigan, it pains me deeply to say anything positive about Ohio. But if it’s absolutely necessary to say something nice about a city in Ohio, Cincinnati would be my top choice. My last choice, by the way, would be Cleveland. But Cincinnati’s new river walk is beautiful, the vibrant downtown is a great place to visit, and the copious quantity of Graeter’s ice cream I shoveled into my pregnant body was the literal icing on the cake. (Hey, does the nursing suite come equipped with a freezer stocked with Graeter’s? That would probably take this project from ‘amazing’ to ‘new mom fantasy dream-world’.) And now, this fancy new nursing suite in their baseball stadium? Cincinnati, well done. You are the crown jewel of Ohio, and while that is a low bar to clear, you have done so exceedingly well.

The Reds’ first home game is next Monday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates, so new moms, buy your tickets and pack your nursing bras and bottles. Let the rest of us live vicariously through your visit to the absolute pinnacle of sports-themed nursing setups.
