Slenderman Stabbing: 12-Year-Old Girls Stabbed Their Friend 19 Times To Appease Internet Myth

slenderman stabbings There’s a horrific case out of Waukesha, Wisconsin this morning about two 12-year-old girls who invited one of their friends over for a sleepover, and the following day lured her into the woods where they played hide and seek until they decided to stab the girl 19 times in order to appease the Something Awful forums originated mythical being of Slenderman. The girls believed murdering their friend would result in them joining the cult of Slenderman and being invited to live in his mansion in the forest. From CNN:

“Both suspects had a fascination with a fictitious character that often posted” to websites dealing with stories about death and horror, the police chief told reporters at a news conference.

According to the criminal complaint, the suspects had been planning the attack since February.

They first thought to kill the victim by placing duct tape over her mouth while she was sleeping and stabbing her in the neck, the complaint read.

Next, the plan was to kill her in a bathroom where there was floor drain that could make cleanup easier, it continued.

But, finally, the girls decided to do it in a park while playing a game of hide-and-seek, the complaint read.

It states: “As they left for the park … (the victim) was walking in front of them and Geyser lifted up the left side of her while jacket and displayed the knife tucked in her waistband. Weier stated she gave Geyser a look with wide eyes and, when asked what that meant Weier stated, ‘I thought, dear god, this was really happening.'”

According to the news report, the victim escaped her friends, screamed she hated them, and crawled out of the woods where she was discovered by a passing cyclist. She barely survived the attack and is now recovering in a local hospital. Both suspects have been arrested and will be tried as adults and are being held on $500,000 bail each.

Growing up, I loved urban legends and anything spooky and paranormal, and I’m glad the Internet wasn’t around because I probably would have lost a lot of sleep reading about things on the Creepypasta Wiki, instead of just standing around with my little friends in a dark bathroom trying to summon Bloody Mary. I think any kid with Internet access, especially around middle-school age, knows about Slenderman, there are forum entires and stories and YouTube videos and even a video game. The fact that these two girl didn’t grasp that this was an urban legend, a myth spawned from the internet, is troubling because if these two girls believe it and tried to murder one of their friends over it, how many other ignorant kids believe the same thing?

This whole story is salacious and chewy enough I can almost guarantee someone will be penning the movie script for it. Two young girls, in all of their prepubescent witchiness, luring one of their friends to the forest and attempting to kill her to sate some amazingly creepy fictional child predator – and considering the poor girl survived just adds to the salability to the script. Mark my words, I bet someone somewhere makes this one into a movie. In the meantime, I hope the rest of you explain to your young teens how not to believe every thing they read online, and how if they start to become obsessed with certain things you take them to see a therapist post haste. Two young girls, there whole lives ahead of them over because they will be tried as adults, and one poor young girl hospitalized and having to spend her life thinking about this nightmare, all because of a scary story spawned on the internet.
