Today’s News Of The Obvious – Exhaustion Makes You Less Attractive
Hey new moms and dads! Do you find yourself looking in the mirror and saying things like, “ugh, I look like shit” a lot? Well, you are correct! You do look like shit because exhaustion makes us all uglier, a new study confirms.
From The Huffington Post:
“Since faces contain a lot of information on which humans base their interactions with each other, how fatigued a person appears may affect how others behave toward them,” study researcher Tina Sundelin, M.Sc., a doctoral student in the department of psychology at Stockholm University in Sweden, said in a statement. “This is relevant not only for private social interactions, but also official ones such as with health care professionals and in public safety.”
Well-rested people are more attractive, says the most obvious study ever conducted, ever. Is it really necessary to pour salt in the wound? I know after I’ve spent the night waking to feed my infant every hour and a half I’m not looking my best. In fact, I’m not anticipating that the dark circles are going to leave my new-mom face until my daughter is at least a year old. It’s why I spend so much money on concealer, but apparently I’m not fooling anyone.
The study was conducted on 10 people who had photographs taken of them at 2:30 pm after eight hours of sleep and then again after 31 hours of no sleep. Ha! Could there be a more obvious study? I’d like to conduct a study of my own. First, I will take a week off of parenting to cruise to Jamaica and spend my days getting full body massages and drinking daiquiris. Then I will single-handedly parent my infant and toddler for a week with no help, whatsoever. At the end of each week, we will do a stress test to see how long it takes me to tell someone to fuck off. Do you think I can get funding for this?
“The study participants also said that the people who were sleep-deprived looked sadder because they looked tired.” Thanks for clearing something up for all of us; being a new parent is really great but nobody can tell because we all look deceptively sad and ugly all the time.
