‘We All Have Nipples, I Don’t Care Who I Offend’: Selma Blair’s Awesome Take On Breastfeeding
How cool is Selma Blair? She’s been in a zillion films but I always think of Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions first because she was made for those roles (I mean, how many actors can play a total bitch and still appear so damn cool and likeable?). Anyway, Blair became a mom back in July to a little boy named Arthur Saint, whom she had with fashion designer boyfriend Jason Bleick. And she proudly breastfeeds him in public. If anyone has a problem with that, they can get over it, as far as Blair’s concerned.
“We all have nipples. I don’t care who I offend; my baby wants to eat. If I can’t get a cover over me quick enough, so be it,” the 39-year-old told People.
Hear hear, Selma! Oh, she also says she’s “really obsessed” with her son and calls herself a “hovering mother.” She tells People, “I know it’s really important to have an independent child, so I’m trying to back off, but it’s hard.” Loving her honesty, loving her attitude.
But back to the breastfeeding… Blair may not have the same reach as Beyonce, who last month nursed Blue Ivy in a SoHo restaurant, but it’s nice to see yet another celebrity tell it like it is. Breastfeeding is not for everyone but those who choose to do it should not have to worry about what others think. Because, trust me, when you’re baby is crying from hunger, the last thing you’re thinking about is offending anyone with your breasts; you’re too busy trying to nourish your child.
Selma Blair may have stated the obvious, but unfortunately not everyone sees it that way. So props to her forĀ telling anyone who has a problem with to essentially grow up. After all, the fact that breastfeeding in public is still an issue is just plain sad. As Blair says, “We all have nipples.” If you don’t like ’em, go away.
