Salma Hayek Calls Her Pregnant Body ‘Disfigured’ – Internet Explodes

shutterstock_122619979__1371312434_142.196.156.251I’ve always been a fan of Salma Hayek. I love her accent and she’s such an adorable little thing. It’s like on the day she was born, the Universe said, ‘We’re going to give you all the looks.” I also waited on her once when I worked in Soho and she left me a $200 tip on a $90 bill. No lie.

So admittedly I may be a little biased for wanting to give her a break on the little foot-in-mouth moment she’s recently had. The Mirror reports that in a recent interview, when speaking about her weight she said:

“I gained so much weight, I got an opportunity to see myself completely disfigured in many different ways – for a very good reason – and I don’t regret it for a second. That’s when I started appreciating my body. The things that I used to criticize, they were not that bad after all.”

Turns out people don’t really love the word “disfigured” when it is describing all the glory that is the pregnant female form. I actually liked being pregnant and think pregnant bellies are pretty awesome. I’ve also never had a “perfect” physique when I became pregnant, so I can’t empathize with how it feels to lose that for a time. She did gain 50 pounds. I gained 25 with my last pregnancy and felt pretty uncomfortable in my skin at the end.

I’m going to chalk this up to a language thing. I’m not sure “disfigured” means what she thinks it means – “to spoil or mar the appearance of.” Maybe her general adorable-ness and the $200 tip have gone to my head, but I just can’t believe that she was dissing the pregnant body as a whole. Either that, or I’ve just proven that I’m a lot more forgiving of the things people say when I actually like them. Who knows? I’m just not offended by this at all.
