Robin Williams Dead Of Apparent Suicide, His Last Instagram Post Was A Tribute To His Daughter

Robin Williams was found dead earlier this evening, the apparent cause was suicide by asphyxiation. He was 63. His publicist said in a statement that the beloved actor had been struggling with depression:

So much of what we know of celebrities in this day and age is what they reveal to us on social media. In what would be his last Instagram photo, he posted a tribute to his daughter on July 31st, her 25th birthday:

Heartbreaking.

His wife released a statement today:

”This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings,” she stated. ”I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

Williams was one of those actors people loved in an enduring way. I’ll never forget the few times I served him at a restaurant in Soho – always gracious, always welcoming to the fans around him. On one particular day he made jokes with the entire bar and bought everyone a round. I saw him radiate a warmth that made people feel welcome.

It’s devastating that someone who brought so many people joy and was clearly adored by his family fell victim to depression. I join the many people who will always hold a special place in their heart for such a talented, transparent,  and funny man.
