Widow of Soldier Killed Confirms Donald Trump Said ”˜He Knew What He Signed Up For’

Myeshia Johnson sat down with George Stephanopoulus today, and addressed the now infamous phone call she received from the guy who pretends to be president. In an absolutely heartbreaking interview, the 24-year old pregnant widow of one of the soldiers killed in Niger talks about her husband, how she’s dealing with her loss, and how she felt when Trump called her.

U.S. Army Sergeant La David T. Johnson was killed in action in Niger earlier this month. His pregnant widow Myeshia Johnson was swept up in a firestorm of controversy last week, when Trump’s remarks to her in a condolence call her made public.

During the call, Trump told Myeshia that her husband “knew what he signed up for”, but acknowledged that his death “hurts anyway”. U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson, a long-time friend of the Johnson family, was present during the call. She spoke out about Trump’s callous remarks.

Rep. Wilson was maligned, called a liar by both the president and General John Kelly, and had her name dragged through the mud.

In the interview with Good Morning America, Myeshia confirms for the first time that the reports of the call were true. Trump did indeed tell her that her husband knew what he was signing up for. Even worse, according to Myeshia, he struggled to even remember La David’s name during the call.

“I heard him stumbling on trying to remember my husband’s name and that’s what hurt me the most because if my husband is out here fighting for our country and he risked his life for our country, why can’t you remember his name?”

Myeshia says she wasn’t allowed to view her husband’s remains when they came back. She says she’s been told very little about what happened in Niger, including why it took so long to recover his body. Nigerian troops found Johnson’s body nearly 48 hours after the ambush, almost a mile from where it occurred.

Not long after the interview with Myeshia aired this morning, the Twitterer-in-chief was back at it again, essentially calling her a liar. He spent the weekend golfing and firing off idiotic tweets about football players and how Rep. Wilson lied (she didn’t). He did not acknowledge the funeral for Sergeant Johnson, which was held on Saturday.

Our hearts and condolences go out to Myeshia and the Johnson family. We hope she’s able to grieve the loss of her brave husband without being vilified for speaking her truth.
