New Bravo Reality TV Show About ‘Extreme Parenting’ Will Make Us All Feel Better About Ourselves

When it comes to parenting, some days are harder than others. Some days it’s all parks, sunshine, laughter and exhausted kids going to sleep at a decent hour. Other days it’s a symphony of “no’s” and a sneaking suspicion that you’ve birthed your own “karma” child. At the end of one of the latter long, hard, days – wouldn’t it be nice to cuddle up on the couch with a glass of wine and watch a reality TV show about crazy parents that make you feel better about your own parenting skills? I think so.

I know what you are going to say, It’s just going to feed the mommy wars! We should be on each others side! This isn’t helping anyone! We need to support each other! Yeah, yeah – whatever. I never really understood the reasoning that all mothers have to like and support each other. We’re not all in the same club. We’re pretty different – and I am okay with that.

Bravo, the network behind such favorites as Top Chef and The Real Housewives of (insert city here) announced this week that it has given the green light to a new reality show called, Extreme Guide to Parenting (working title). From the Hollywood Reporter:

The unscripted effort from Punched in the Head is intended to offer a candid glimpse into the lives of people using unconventional parenting tactics. The overprotective, fiercely competitive and nondisciplinarian will all be included — as will parents who breastfeed their children past age 4.

”Whether you have kids or you’re stuck next to the screaming child on a plane, judging other people’s parenting is a guilty pleasure. We all love to do it,” said Bravo vp development Eli Lehrer. ”The series explores all manners of eccentric ways parents raise their kids, and we’ll let the viewer be the judge of how they’re doing.”

We judge each other all the time, am I right? Now we can do it in the privacy of our own homes without showing the world the kind of judgey monsters we all are. Woo hoo! I’ll start now – what kind of parent would put their parenting styles and kids on Bravo for the world to see? Geez. Not me.
