Annoying Pranksters Harassing Kate Middleton & You Thought Your First Trimester Was Bad

Two Australian radio DJ pranked Kate Middleton during pregnancy by phoning the hospital where she is being treated for hyperemesis gravidarum, an acute form of morning sickness, and receiving personal details about her condition from the private nurse assigned to her care. And you thought relatives and friends phoning your partner to check up on your health during pregnancy was annoying. The Daily Mail has a recording of the phone call, which you can listen to here.

Two radio presenters last night tricked staff at the Duchess of Cambridge’s hospital into giving a full update on her condition.

In an extraordinary stunt that provoked fury, the Australian 2Day FM presenters impersonated the Queen and Prince Charles and found themselves talking to pregnant Kate’s private nurse.

A nurse tells Mel Greig and Michael Christian that the Duchess is about to be ‘freshened up’, saying: ”˜She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night.

‘She’s been given some fluids, she’s stable at the moment.’

King Edward VII Hospital in central London today verified that the call was genuine but criticised it as ‘a foolish prank call that we all deplore’. The stunt triggered global outrage.

The presenters started the show by claiming they have the phone number of the King Edward VII Hospital and call it, claiming they want to ”˜speak to Kate’.

For those of you not listening to this truly stupid call, the radio DJs basically call, pretend to be the Queen and Prince Charles, and ask for personal information about The Duchess Of Windsor’s medical condition, complete with fake Corgi dog barking sounds in the background. The poor nurses sounds terrified, she thinks she is actually speaking to The Queen. There is nothing funny about calling a hospital and pretending to be a pregnant woman’s relatives and asking for personal medical information about her condition.

Many people in the world are fascinated by Kate Middleton and her pregnancy, but to stoop so low to contact the hospital she is being treated in an immature and totally
not-funny prank is really deplorable. Everyone deserves a right to their privacy, especially when they are ill, whether or not they are going to give birth to an heir to the throne.

It’s one thing to be interested in the royal baby, what maternity clothing Kate Middleton wears, to speculate what baby gifts the couple will receive, whether or not she is pregnant with twins, but to invade her privacy when she is being treated for a severe medical condition is wrong. Every pregnant woman knows having a baby is a big deal, especially when it’s your first baby and even more so when you have a condition that requires a hospital stay or frequent first trimester doctor visits. I’m foolishly hoping this is the last of these pranks we see, but I have a bad feeling poor Kate Middleton’s pregnancy will be full of these idiotic stunts.
