Tan’s given name was Tanweer Safdar and he was born to his Punjabi Pakistani parents in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. After studying fashion at Doncaster College, he moved to Manchester. After leaving Manchester, he headed to London, arguably a much better place to study fashion, which is where he lived before moving to the United States. His English sophistication always comes through on the show, but sometimes his accent can be hard to place because he seems so well-traveled. Even when he’s being insulting, he sounds totally cute!
