Queen Elizabeth Has 4 Cocktails a Day and I’m Shook

Queen Elizabeth has seen some shit. The 91-year-old Monarch of the United Kingdom has served through several wars, 13 Prime Ministers,  and visits to more than 115 countries. And that’s to say nothing of her personal life drama! If you’ve ever wondered how Her Majesty has survived 64 years on the throne, now we know: alcohol. Queen Elizabeth, she’s just like us!

Food & Wine is reporting that the Queen is a creature of habit, and that’s true of her alcohol intake as well. If you want to drink like a Queen, here’s what you need to imbibe.

Before lunch, Her Majesty has her first cocktail, a gin and Dubbonet (a sweet wine-based aperitif). ABC reports that the Queen likes hers with two parts Dubonnet Rouge and one part Gordon’s gin, stirred and strained into a glass, followed by a slice of lemon and exactly two cubes of ice. Sounds delish.

During her lunch (which varies between a grilled chicken and salad or vegetables and fish), Queen Elizabeth will enjoy a glass of wine.  Darren McGrady, a former royal chef, told The Telegraph that Her Majesty absolutely loves chocolate, and has a piece with her lunch.

Margaret Rhodes, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth, claims she sometimes enjoys a dry martini during lunch, too.

The Queen has an alcohol-free tea time (although she still enjoys another piece of chocolate) and a light dinner. She finishes her day with a glass of champagne before bed. What a Queen.

The Independent points out that this amounts to about six units of alcohol every day. This makes her a binge drinker, per government standards. But, considering Her Majesty is 91 years old and going strong, I don’t see anyone holding an interventi0n for her anytime soon.
