Most hospitals use the Philips AVENT Soothie, which newborns seem to do well with. Lost pacifiers and unmatched socks have some sort of secret hideaway, we’re convinced.

And if you are nursing, having bottles available when you need a break or have to leave the house can be a life-saver. Just a fair warning though: it can be tough to find the one bottle your baby will take. We’ve heard great things about the Como Tomo, from nursing and non-nursing mamas alike.

They have compartments, so you can portion full, balanced meals to grab and heat with ease. Or, if you’re an Amazon Prime member, consider signing up for Amazon Pantry or Amazon Fresh before the baby comes. Listen, you’re going to be spending a lot of time just sitting and nursing and burping and holding. After an hour of feeding and changing and rocking the baby, once it’s asleep in your arms, you’re stuck. Get a bunch of extra-long charging cables, like these for Samsung devices or these for Apple devices, and keep one plugged in near your bed and favorite couch spot. The last thing you need is for your phone to die right in the middle of a Netflix binge while the baby naps on your lap.

Bringing home a new baby can be overwhelming, but like they say in the Scouts, be prepared! Having these essentials on-hand from the moment you get home can make the transition so much easier. What was your must-have for the first day home with the baby? Tell us in the comments!
