Pregnant Carla Bruni Is Dying For A Smoke And A Drink And I Don’t Blame Her!

French First Lady Carla Bruni, who’s nearly eight months pregnant with her second child, really wants a smoke. And a drink. “Quite frankly, I can’t stand it any more,” Bruni, 43, told French magazine Le Parisienne. “I spend most of my time either sitting down or lying down. I can’t drink or smoke any more. I’m in a hurry to get it over with.”

You gotta love the Euros!

Of course, lots of people are outraged over Bruni’s attitude (comments on various sites range from “so much for priorities” to “stupid bitch”). But I’m going to go ahead and say it: At least she’s telling the truth!

Look, carrying a child is a beautiful thing. It’s miraculous, to be sure, and any woman who is lucky enough to do so should feel blessed. But you know what? When you’re used to having a drink and a smoke every day or week or even month, you tend to miss it when you give it up cold turkey. Is it worth the sacrifice? Absolutely. But is it fun? Uh, no.

I’m not even a smoker never was but I can still imagine how Bruni feels. When I was pregnant, I went from having a couple of glasses of wine with dinner at least a couple times a week to nada. Of course I survived, but I missed it. It was a tiny sacrifice to make but I wanted my wine, dammit!

The sad reality is that lots of women act like saints once they’re with child and they would never, not for one second, admit that they could really use a vodka soda or a big fat doob. Why? Because it would be politically incorrect to say so. Bruni’s mistake was admitting this to a reporter. Had she kept it amongst her closest friends, they would have had a good laugh.

Kudos to Bruni for admitting what so many women are too afraid to say out loud.
