Parents Ask Man To Beat Their Son After They Suspect Him Of Smoking
My children are only 6 and 2, so I can’t imagine what it’ll be like one day in the future when they do stupid things like drive too fast or drink too much at a party. It’s bound to happen these teenage rites of passage and I like to think that when the time comes, I’ll deal.
Unlike this Irvine, California couple, who found a lighter in their 15-year-old son’s possession and assumed he’d been smoking. Rather than discuss it with the boy, they instead turned to Paul Kim, a member of their La Habra church, and asked him to discipline their child with a beating.
Kim hit the boy with a metal pole around a dozen times, causing severe bruising on his legs, according to San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokesperson Cindy Bachmann. Fortunately, a school official noticed the boy’s severe bruising, notified authorities and filed a suspected child abuse report with Child Protective Services.
Kim, 39, has been booked on suspicion of felony willful cruelty to a child, reports the L.A. Times. He was released Thursday on $100,000 bail.
What’s especially disturbing to learn is that that other families have used Kim to discipline their children, too. In this particular instance, I’d like to know why this boy’s parents aren’t being arrested as well. Kim may have performed the actual act of beating this boy with a pole, but it’s the boys parents who willingly drove their son to Kim’s house. They sought him out and then gave him permission to violently discipline their child. In my opinion, that makes them equally as guilty.
