Open Thread: Let’s Make Some Resolutions We Actually Want To Stick To

Happy New Year!

I’ve never been a big resolution-maker, but after having kind of a rough 2014, I think a few are in order. I’m not making the traditional ones, though. Somewhere along the way, resolution almost turned into “punishment” and that’s not cool. Why are resolutions just laundry lists of things we’re either denying ourselves or forcing ourselves to do?

My 2014 resolutions are all about self-care, which I am admittedly bad with. On Christmas day, my family rolled a bike into my front door. It looked way too big for my four-year-old, so I was stumped about what was going on. It never even occurred to me that I would have such a big, fun gift headed my way. Seriously — it didn’t cross my mind for a second that it would be mine. There is something inherently wrong with that.

I’m so used to taking care of everyone around me, I don’t even think about indulging myself in anything. I’m changing that in 2015. My New Year’s resolutions are to do one thing that is just for me every day (or at least a few times a week) and treat myself to stuff occasionally.

So… now that we’ve made resolutions fun — what are yours?
