Not Odd At All: Nick Lachey Says Camden Named After Gynecologist’s Street Name

vanessa and nick lacheyBaby name inspiration can come from anywhere. And I mean, annnnywhere. Your favorite food or the movie you watched on repeat as a kid, television soap operas or your favorite hobby, there’s any number of places to look when picking out the perfect name for your little one. Just ask Vanessa and Nick Lachey, who found their son’s name walking down the street. Specifically, walking down a street called Camden Drive.

The musician and former reality tv star told People:

”It’s kind of a funny story. I’ve always liked the name Colin. We thought that Colin would be the name. And John is my dad’s name. But as we got further into it, I learned that Vanessa wasn’t a big fan of the name Colin, so we started looking for another ”˜C’ name.”

Nick, who frequented Vanessa’s obstetrician’s office with her on Camden Drive, one day suggested, ”Hey, what about Camden?”

The rest is baby naming history my friends.

It seems a little  odd to mention that the name came from the street your gyno was on, but I guess they had to explain that they didn’t just steal the name from Kristin Cavallari.

In reality, plenty of people have crazy name stories. I’m boring and picked mine off of a baby name website. But lots of people want their baby names to mean something. So unless you’re naming your child after a grandparent or lost loved one, you’re going to start looking around to find a spark of inspiration. Jay-Z and Beyonce named Blue Ivy after their successful albums, so I guess Lachey’s move is a little less ego-centric than that. Or he just couldn’t convince Vanessa to a child named “Rise,” after his only successful album, 98° and Rising.

Either way, by the luck of the gods, Vanessa chose an OB on Camden Drive instead of Fourth Street or Beaver Way or Mapledowns Avenue. (By the way, I grew up on one of those streets. Guess which one.)

Where’s your odd baby name inspiration come from?
