This Mom Wearing a Chewbacca Mask During Labor Is My New Parenting Role Model

Well, I have a new #MomGoals in my life.

Giving birth sucks. It’s so awful it defies comprehension. It’s one of those things a person has to experience to know how awful it is, like eating cilantro. People try to make childbirth fun–Blac Chyna did the Mannequin Challenge while giving birth, much to the viral delight of Kris Jenner–but really, it’s not fun. Until now, the best a person could do was to get through it and try to remember that labor can’t actually last forever. Now, however, we know that the best thing a person can actually do is to get one of those howling Chewbacca masks from Target, because this is hilarious.

Romper’s Jen McGuire reports that Katie Stricker Curtis from Detroit is the genius who saw a Chewbacca mask and realized she needed it during delivery. That’s a much better idea than buying a bunch of fancy pajamas and trying to do your makeup, which is what I did. (Didn’t work. Wish I’d had a Chewbacca mask instead.)

It’s hilarious to watch, because the mask howls during every contraction. If you ever wondered what it looks like when a Wookiee gives birth–and there are definitely a lot of people who have wondered that–this video is your answer.

Curtis shared the video on her Facebook page, writing: “Just because I’m about to be a mom doesn’t mean I have to grow up! Bwahahahas never take life too seriously! Best Christmas gift ever! #havingababy #pregnancyhairgrowth”

Curtis is the best. Her delivery reportedly went just fine, and she had a lovely, healthy little boy named Jayden.
