While he worked on The Children’s Corner, Fred attended the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He graduated in 1963 and was ordained as a minister of the United Presbyterian Church. Even though his Christianity inspired ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’, he never mentioned his religious beliefs on the show. According to the co-director of the Fred Rogers Center, he did not do this to hide his religion. He did not want to make some of his viewers feel as if they were excluded from the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. This echoes Mister Rogers’ emphasis on the importance of inclusion of people regardless of race, sex, and disability status.
