Military Spouse Leaves Zero Tip & Says Her Drinks “Should Be Free”

By  |

A receipt is going viral — but not because a kind do-gooder left a massive tip on a small bill. (Check out this article about Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy tipping $2,020 on a $76 bill if you want something like that.) In fact, it’s quite the opposite. A self-described “military spouse” tipped zero dollars on two 12-dollar-glasses of La Crema Chardonnay and, to make matters worse, in the “Grand total” line, she wrote, “I’m a military spouse. It should be free — next time thank a military spouse.” She rounded off her commentary with a smiley face.

We’ve got to admit that she’s got pretty nice handwriting, but making a demand like that is kind of ludicrous. The woman who seemingly wrote the comment posted to Snapchat, writing, “when I became a military sprouse I thought I would get free stuff WTF … Military spouses deserve drinks for free f*ck this place!! OMG F*CK THIS PLACE!! We serve our asses off way more than anyone!!”

According to the receipt, the card was swiped just before 10 PM on the second evening of the year. Naturally, the Reddit community picked up the picture and it was shared on /r/ChoosingBeggars and /r/trashy within hours.

In the “Choosing Beggars” sub, many former active-duty service people and their spouses expressed that this kind of mindset is actually pretty common. “Those spouse clubs are just an echo chamber where they all start to reinforce each other that this kinda shit like in the [original post] is ok,” one former active duty wrote.

In fact, there’s another subreddit called “Just Dependa Things” that shows various examples of this kind of entitlement shown on the receipt. If you’ve got an hour to kill, peruse the sub and see the genuinely cringe-worthy posts from across the web.
