Meghan Markle Went to the Invictus Games With Prince Harry, and Her Dress Is Already Sold Out
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not yet announced an engagement. But the world decided that Markle is as good as a royal already, and now her clothes sell out the moment she wears them.
The “Kate effect” is well documented. Anything the Duchess of Cambridge wears immediately sells out, even if it’s really expensive. Prince George even has everyone in the U.K. buying French Puy lentils right now. (Puy lentils featured on the menu at Prince George’s ultra-swanky London school. Now everyone wants them.)

This weekend Markle attended the Invictus Games in Toronto with Prince Harry. The Invictus Games are an international sporting event in which wounded, injured, or sick veterans and armed services personnel compete in sports games. Prince Harry created the Invictus Games in 2014. The first games were held in London, and the second games were held in Florida. This year, Toronto hosted the third games, and Meghan Markle attended in this awesome maroon outfit.

Markle wore a maroon wrap dress with a pleated chiffon skirt, spaghetti straps, and a low cut wrapped bodice. It’s the Wilfred Beaune Dress by Aritzia. The dress cost $185, and the maroon version Markle wore sold out within hours. Now most of the other colors are sold out, too. (As of press time, a black version is available in XS and XXS, and a dark pink version is available in XXS. A dark gray version is available for pre-order, but won’t ship until February.)
Markle paired the maroon dress with a matching maroon leather motorcycle jacket. Markle’s is by Mackage and cost $69o, and that’s sold out as well.

Markle has worn items from both Canadian brands before.
Markle wore her hair in loose waves parted in the center, with a light smoky eye and a pink lip. (Markle’s very good at that “done but not too done” look that’s so in-demand right now.)

Of course, The Daily Mail is freaking out about how Markle’s “rock chick” look is “world’s apart from demure Kate’s early days with William.” Did I miss the memo where we’re supposed to dress like our sisters in law? Because if that’s true, mine’s not going to be happy about having to buy a bunch of vintage bell bottoms.
Markle stars in one of the most popular TV shows on cable. She’s been a working actress since 2002. That means she has a stylist and a ton of red carpet experience. She has her own style, and she looks pretty darn cool.

If Aritzia’s sales are anything to go by, clearly a lot of people want to dress like Meghan Markle. It looks like the “Meghan effect” will keep selling dresses out as soon as she wears them.
