Crafty McDonalds Owner Blasts Opera To Deter Teens From Loitering

McDonalds owner blasts opera

Teenagers can be the worst. I was totally a little ass when I was a teenager, and I have a lot of respect for my parents for not repeatedly slapping the crap out of me every single day for my shenanigans. And there is nothing teens love more than loitering, especially at terrible fast food restaurants, which makes eating at said restaurants super annoying sometimes. And one restaurant owner in Australia decided to do something about it.

Matthew Watson, A McDonalds owner in the Mount Annan region of Sydney, New South Wales Australia recently became fed up with a group of local teens that had taken to hanging out at his restaurant . Instead of doing what I would do and blasting them with a fire hose or whatever, he took a unique approach and started blasting opera music to drive them away. And it worked, obviously.

According to a quote from Watson in the Macarthur Chronicle:

“We’ve noticed a reduction in the number of young people hanging around, but we’ll have to reassess it properly in a couple of weeks. We play a range of classical and opera music and so far it seems to be working.”

Area residents have had mixed feelings about the ploy. Some love the idea, and think it’s great that these pesky teens have been driven away. Others aren’t so happy, because they think opera music is terrible. Well, they have a point. Resident Janeen Brady wrote:

“They turn it up really loud when youth are hanging around the car park. It woke me up at 1am Tuesday night and it’s only going to get worse as Xmas [sic] approaches.”

Now, I’m not exactly an opera fan. But I’m even less a fan of annoying teenagers hanging around fast food places getting their hormones everywhere, so this restaurant owner is my new hero. I’m gonna go blast some  Le Nozze di Figaro at my kids now, for shits and giggles.
