If You Liked Malia Obama’s Pretty Inauguration Coat, J.Crew Doesn’t Want You To Have One

malia obama inauguration coatThose who were taking fashion notes during President Obama‘s second inauguration may only get so far in that Google search, especially if you took a liking to Malia Obama‘s plum coat. You may have seen something you’d like for your own teen or tween but J.Crew is officially retiring the look. (But it’s the perfect Easter color!)

J. Crew confirms that Malia’s very lady-like choice is by no means a new gem in the J.Crew collection. But that perfect shade of plum will forever be Malia Obama’s color:

“The lady day coat that Malia was wearing has been in our line for years, and we’ll continue that, but we’ll retire the color,” said J.Crew’s creative director, Jenna Lyons. ”We won’t do the color again, just out of respect for the first family.”

J.Crew will also be pulling Michelle Obama’s sparkly belt, which the First Lady finagled from a sash:

”That belt was actually a sash. She fashioned it into a belt around the coat,” Lyons said. ”We won’t rerun that. She did her own thing to that, and out of respect, we’ll let her have her that moment.”

Which is all just a round about way of saying, have fun pawing through Ebay!
