Just So We’re All Clear, We’re Supposed To Call Kate Middleton’s Daughter A ‘Princess’
People magazine reports that, by formal decree, Kate and Prince William‘s hypothetical daughter will get a title upgrade (in addition to a shot at succession) . Apparently, in ye olden times, only the oldest son could have an official “prince” title. Meaning that any girls to come out of the Kate and William union would be dully referred to as “lady.” Definitely was not planning on using that one.
Her Majesty reportedly made the decision on New Year’s Eve, but we’re just learning of it now via the London Gazette. The declaration reads:
“The Queen has been pleased by Letters Patentunder the Great Seal of the Realm dated 31 December 2012 to declare that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour.”
A thousand times better than “lady.” Great-grandma seriously scored for you, hypothetical princess daughter.
