We know that much of the focus has been on Meghan Markle as of late. And for good reason! After all, she just delivered a royal baby, and Archie is cute as a button. Plus, she was the newest royal to join the family, and people get excited about new people, right? Meghan is so much different than what we’ve come to expect from the royal family, so it’s hard not to keep an eye on her. But we have to take a moment and pay homage to our OG Duchess, Kate Middleton. She’s got this royal life down to a science, and Kate never suffers a misstep. It’s actually pretty impressive when you think about it.

One of the things we’ve noticed about Kate Middleton in recent years is how much her fashion and sense of style has evolved. Which makes sense! Our style changes as we get older, plus she’s a busy mom of three now. However, even as Kate’s style changes, it just gets better and better. She knows her strengths and she plays to them! We love how she can go from a fancy gown to jeans and sweater and still look like a million bucks. Let’s take a look at some of Kate’s best fashion moments!

Kate Middleton does themed casual REALLY well.

Here’s the thing: if 98% of the population tried to pull off a nautical look like this, we’d be laughed out of the room. But not only does it work on Kate, it works in a big way. She wore this outfit earlier this month to the morning’s launch of the King’s Cup, and honestly she looks like she could have commandeered one of the ships. The striped sweater with the sailor trousers and little red clutch is a look. We especially love the cut of the pants and that button detail. Casual, yet totally appropriate for the occasion. Ahoy, Duchess!

Pretty florals for a garden party.

Kate Middleton recently unveiled her “Back to Nature” garden at the Chelsea Flower Show. The Duchess co-designed it with the Royal Horticultural Society to highlight the positive mental and physical benefits of spending time in nature. She chose to embrace the garden theme by wearing an absolutely gorgeous floral dress. The dress was designed by Erdem and features forget-me-nots, which were Princess Diana’s favorite flower. She paired the dress with a cute pair of espadrille wedges (we’re sure the Queen was fine with them this time), and a sweet, youthful braid.

Kate Middleton always looks stunning in green.

Everyone has a signature color, right? Well, if you’re Kate Middleton, every color is your signature color. But we particularly love when she wears green. It plays so well with her hair and eyes! She paired this emerald green dress with a nude clutch and pumps to an event at the Anna Freud National Centre. And we have to say, she looked every bit the polished, put-together Duchess of Cambridge that we know and love. We have to know what shampoo and conditioner she uses, because she’s basically a Prell girl and we are green (get it?) with envy.

Bright hues are a staple of royal fashion, especially for Kate Middleton.

It’s funny, because when you think of the royal family, you don’t necessarily think of bright, bold color. There’s just something about the whole thing that seems stodgy! But the Queen herself actually prefers really bright colors, and the new wave of royals has embraced it, too. While attending Anzac Day services this year, Kate wore a coatdress and matching hat in a stunning shade of blue. We stan a royal in a fancy hat, always. But what we love most about this outfit is that she paired the dress and hat with shoes and a clutch in a completely different color. The dark green accessories really pulled the whole ensemble together and accented the feathers on her fascinator.

We’re telling you, dark green is her thing.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? We wonder if Kate’s closet is organized by color (we hope it is). The green section would be the biggest, and that is exactly how it should be. While visiting the Irish Guards on St. Patrick’s Day this year, the Duchess paired a dark green coat with a matching fascinator, plenty of sparkling emeralds, and chunky-heeled black pumps. She also wore a traditional gold shamrock brooch, which added a nice touch to the dark ensemble. Not going to lie, we would fight someone for that coat and hat, and we don’t even wear nice coats and hats.

Kate Middleton loves to recycle her clothes.

It’s sort of hard to wrap your brain around just how privileged and wealthy the royal family is, Like, logically we know they could buy and sell us. But they seem pretty down-to-earth for the most part? That is never more evident than when Kate pulls a dress out of her closet for a second go-around. She does this quite a bit, and it’s refreshing to know that even the Duchess of Cambridge wears the same thing more than once. This beautiful Alexander McQueen dress got its first taste of the spotlight in 2017, but Kate loved it so much so brought it back out to attend National Portrait Gallery Gala this year.

OK, this might be our favorite Kate Middleton look EVER.

There’s just so much we love about this, we don’t know where to start. First off, it’s sort of a departure from what we’re used to seeing from Kate Middleton. It’s sort of androgynous, and very simple and clean. But it’s also incredibly fashion-forward, and the different lines make the whole thing work. Kate paired this purple pussybow blouse (that’s what it’s actually called, so wink, wink Kate) with a pair of black wide-legged trousers during a visit to the Henry Fawcett Children’s Centre. She kept the accessories very simple, and of course wore a pair of her favorite shoes to complete the look. Kate’s shoe closet is insane, but she’s been known to wear the same pairs over and over again.

She slays when she’s dressed down, but dressed up? Untouchable.

Shine bright like a diamond, Kate Middleton! As a member of the royal family, Kate has plenty of opportunities to get dressed to the nines in fancy duds. So many formal events! But we especially love that space between black tie and casual – something that requires a little bit of pizzazz, but not full-blown ballgown. Kate thrives in this middle ground, as evidenced by the Missoni dress she wore on her first night in Northern Ireland. The cut of the dress is perfection! We really love the flow of the skirt and the slight bell sleeve. It’s sparkly enough to catch everyone’s eye, but not to be seen from space, which is the perfect amount of sparkle.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Kate’s “dressed down” is still pretty epic.

See, this is what we picture in our minds when we decide to dress casually for something. But somehow, we always end up looking like we just woke up and rolled out of bed. But Kate Middleton makes skinny jeans and a tweed coat look like something out a fashion magazine! For an event at a community garden in London, Kate went low-key and appropriate in jeans, a darling tweed coat, and suede boots. Now, everything about this outfit is great, but those boots? We need those boots. We would wear those boots every single day, with our pj pants or leggings and the hoodie we’ve been living in for a few weeks.

We’d look like a holiday choir reject in this outfit, but Kate Middleton makes it look so effortless.

This is the kind of outfit that you picture in your mind and think, “OH MY GOD THAT IS GOING TO BE SO CUTE!” And then you put it on and you end up looking like a grown-ass woman doing American Girl cosplay. So whyyyyyyy does Kate Middleton look perfect in it?! Because she’s Kate freaking Middleton, that’s why. Over the Christmas holidays, Kate wore this to-die-for plaid midi skirt with a cropped black cardigan and knee-high black suede boots. It’s the most Christmas outfit ever, and we so wish we could pull this off. That skirt is absolute perfection.

More closet recycling from Kate Middleton.

Kate Middleton is never NOT photographed when she’s out and about or attending a big event. So it’s not hard to see when she’s re-wearing a dress. But she let some years lapse between events for this stunning blue number. Kate first wore this Jenny Packham gown in 2012, but pulled it out again for the Tusk Conservation Awards in late 2018. First of all, let’s just all cry a bit over the fact that she’s the same size in 2018 as she was in 2012. It’s not fair, but we’re moving past it. Second, she should wear this dress all the time. The color is divine, and that lace back detail is out of this world. Great choice Kate, both times.

Kate Middleton dressing off-the-rack is a whole mood.

Sure, we don’t have a lot in common with Kate Middleton. We don’t live in a palace, or have our choice of priceless tiaras. We don’t have a staff of people around at all times to help manage our lives. As much as it pains us, our hair doesn’t have the body and volume of Kate’s. But it’s fine. WE’RE FINE. Because you know we do have? A Zara store in our local mall. And Kate loves to wear off-the-rack, and Zara is one of her favs. This adorable summer dress is from the store, and she wore it to one of Prince William’s charity polo matches. Perfect for chasing kids around, which is what she spent quite a bit of time doing.

She picks her colors so well!

You ever see a dress and fall in love with it immediately, only to have your inner voice tell you that you’d look like an Easter egg wearing it? No? Just us? OK then. Kate clearly doesn’t have that inner voice, and it’s a good thing because it would be lying to her. This lavender color is absolutely amazing on her, and the cut of this dress is perfect. She always dresses to her body type, and it’s so smart. We love how simple this dress by Emilia Wickstead is, and she kept it simple by pairing it with nude pumps and a handbag. Honestly, with hair like that, you don’t need to over-accessorize. Her hair is a damn accessory.

Even in all black, Kate Middleton shines.

It’s not often that we see the Duchess of Cambridge in all black, but some occasions call for it. Kate wore this gorgeous dress by Roland Mouret to the Royal Festival of Remembrance. She kept her accessories simple (which is her style), pairing it with a simple black clutch and pumps. Her only pop of color came in the form of the red poppy pin she wore in honor of Remembrance Day. What really makes this dress work is the neckline, though. It’s a bit of a departure for Kate, who usually favors higher, more simple necklines. But we love the asymmetry of this dress, and it looks amazing on her.

Another interesting neckline for Kate Middleton. And a print!

Image: Instagram/@katemiddleton_fashion

OK, so maybe Kate should consider wearing more of this asymmetrical neckline?! It looks so good on her, and it really changes the entire look of the ensemble. But aside from the neckline, this particular dress is different than what we’re used to seeing from Kate for another reason: it’s not a solid color! Sure, she wears patterns and prints from time to time, but it’s pretty rare. This muted plaid is a great compromise, and honestly, it’s perfect. The dress is by Erdem, who is one of Kate’s go-to designers. She paired it with a plum clutch and matching pumps and belt to pull it all together.

Kate Middleton looking every bit the ray of sunshine that she is, to be honest.

Yellow is one of the colors that we would kill to be able to wear. Because it’s so fun! It’s bright and lively, and you’d be hard-pressed to be in a bad mood walking around like an actual beam of sunlight. Alas, our complexion is not bright yellow-friendly, so instead we just get to admire Kate Middleton wearing the color like it was made for her. The Duchess wore this cute little Dolce and Gabbana number while attending Wimbledon with Prince William. It’s a color made for a tennis match, no? She looks positively beaming in it, and we bet she found it hard not to smile wearing it.

We will forever love Kate Middleton for a lot of reasons, but her sense of style is right up there at the top of the list. She never misses a beat, and we appreciate seeing a mom of three looking like a million bucks! Even if she literally has, like, a million bucks.
