The Gosselin twins Mady and Cara celebrated their 17th birthday a few days ago. Mom Kate Gosselin took to Instagram to share some birthday love for the almost-adults in a gushing post. Totally sweet and normal, right? Well, if you’re Kate Gosselin and the mere mention of your name incites fury within people, not so much. Instead of just scrolling on by, people took the opportunity to attack Kate, ask inappropriate questions, and even make snarky comments about the girls. Because internet, we suppose.

Look, love her or hate her, there are some things people just need to back the fuck up on when it comes to Kate Gosselin. She’s ruffled a lot of feathers, for sure. But she’s also allowed to do the mom thing and wish her twins a happy birthday. And it shouldn’t need to be said, but those kids didn’t ask for any of this. So go join an “I H8 KATE” fan club and stay out of her mentions. And keep the kids’ names off your fingertips.
