I’m So Frustrated Over Jodie Laubenberg’s Rape Kit Comments That I Can’t Even So I Made A Cartoon

Jodie Laubenberg Thinks Rape Kits Stop Unwanted PregnancyI love when people hear something so awful or bizarre or downright frustrating that all they can do is reply I CAN’T EVEN. It happens a lot here on Mommyish, and it happens a lot in real life when I am confronted with something that just boggles my brain so much that I resemble a cartoon animal with smoke coming out of my ears and I CAN’T EVEN.

Lots of people have asked me what I thought about what Texas GOP lawmaker Jodie Laubenberg said about rape kits, and I CAN’T EVEN. Ms. Laubenberg is 56 years old. She has two children. Not to get all Judgey Mcjudgeypants on her (and how can I not? I CAN’T EVEN) but one would think that a lady of this age who has children would sort of understand how simple concepts work in the world. But SHE CAN’T EVEN.

For those of you unaware of what I’m basically losing my shit over, the Huffington Post has summed it up neatly for us:

Amid a heated debate over a restrictive anti-abortion bill being pushed by Texas GOP lawmakers, one Republican argued that a proposed exemption for rape victims was unnecessary because assaulted women could simply turn to rape kits for abortions.

For those of you unfamiliar with what is going on in the Lone Star state, there is a special session set to end at 11:59 today that will decide whether Texas legislature will enact wide-ranging restrictions that will basically shut down shut down abortion centers in Texas.  Also from the Huffington Post:

Although Texas is just the latest of several conservative states to try to enact tough limits on abortions, the scope of its effort is notable both because of the combination of bills being considered and the size of the state. The proposal would ban abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy, require doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, limit abortions to surgical centers and stipulate doctors must monitor even non-surgical abortions.

It’s a terrifying situation, but just as terrifying is the fact that Laubenberg has no idea what a rape kit is. Because I can’t even, I made a special little cartoon just to explain it.

Hundreds of protesters have packed into the state capitol to watch as democrats try and keep these amazingly restrictive laws from passing. I don’t care if you are pro-choice or pro-life, but can’t we all agree that the only people trying to pass these laws should be those that actually understand what type of laws they are passing?
