Feuding Celeb Mommy Gurus? Jessica Alba Says Her Parenting Advice Is ‘Much More Grounded’ Than Gwyneth’s

jessica albaUh oh! There are problems in “Look-How-Wonderful-I-Am Land.” It looks like the up-and-coming celeb mommy guru is throwing some shade at the O.G. celeb mommy guru. I hope everyone is ready to choose sides in this new Jessica Alba and Gwyneth Paltrow showdown.

So Paltrow’s newest lifestyle guide book, It’s All Good, just came out. And Alba, who founded The Honest Company, just released her first book, The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You. Two celebrity moms who try to show normal moms how to live healthy and organic were bound to get compared to each other. And when it eventually happened, Alba responded like this:

”Gwyneth Paltrow probably lives a very similar lifestyle, but I didn’t grow up with a bunch of money, so my tips are much more grounded: Repurposing things and making things at home.”

In some ways, Alba was just saying what we all already know. GOOP is made fun of constantly for it’s snobbishness and lack of relatability with 99.9% of human beings. Almost anything you’ve ever read has been “more grounded” than the musings of Gwyneth Paltrow.

At the same time, Alba could’ve communicated this idea with a little more tact and a little less defensiveness. The whole, “I didn’t grow up with a bunch of money,” business seems a little confrontational, and also irrelevant. Plenty of extremely wealthy people have no problem relating to the needs and mindsets of those a little lower on the socioeconomic scale. Merely pointing out that Alba’s book is trying to reach most mothers “with a typical household budget” would have been enough to differentiate the two works.

At the same time, maybe a little friendly competition is exactly what the two self-help mommies want. After all, nothing promotes book sales like a good old-fashioned celebrity feud. In that case, well-played Alba. Your move Gwynnie.
