Jennifer Garner Doesn’t Want You To Think Of Her As ‘Just’ A Wife

jennifer garnerJennifer Garner and Ben Affleck may have a “Mad Men” style marriage, but recent comments suggest that Jennifer doesn’t just want to be a demure, forgettable Betty Draper anger smoking in the kitchen. The lady wants more than simply being Ms. Affleck. Crazy, I know.

The mother of three, ranging in ages from seven years old to 17 months, reportedly tells the September issue of Allure that she’s pretty strategic about keeping her public identity separate from her husband, for fear of merging into Bennifer Redux:

“It’s a very conscious decision,” she explains going to some premieres and parties separately. “Sometimes it’s a pain because my heels are so high and it would be nice to have his arm. And he’s such a great date!”

“But it can be too much,” Garner says. “I think especially for women, they can really lose their identity and just become ‘wife of’.”

She also reportedly makes a point of not working with her husband to avoid tipping the saturation point that is quickly growing in the tabloids:

“Really, you don’t want to see a couple onscreen,” argues Garner, who met Affleck on the set of 2003’s Daredevil. “People see paparazzi shots of us together all the time. There’s no mystery . . . People are sick of us.”

Frankly, I could never be sick of a Hollywood woman who makes statements about refusing Botox or her unwillingness to go on crazy diets for roles in anymore — other tidbits from this same interview. But Jennifer’s modern expectations of an otherwise traditional marriage arrangement creates a worthwhile intersection.
