Mean Girls Is Getting A Mom Spin-Off, So Maybe Fetch Will Finally Happen

Mean-girlsIn news that I did not know I wanted but I really, really did, Mean Girls is getting a spin-off movie, and this one is all about moms.

According to Deadline, Jennifer Aniston is expected to star in a Mean Girls-esque comedy with a female ensemble. Like Mean Girls, Mean Moms will be based on Rosalind Wiseman’s advice books. Mean Girls was famously based on Wiseman’s Queen Bees and Wannabes, which was about the social lives of adolescent girls. Mean Moms is based on Wiseman’s parenting book, Queen Bee Moms And King Pin Dads: Dealing With The Parents, Teachers, Coaches, And Counselors Who Can Make ”” or Break ”” Your Child’s Future.

Anyone who reads this site probably knows the so-called “Mommy Wars” are an endless source of potential humor. (Sanctimommies are hilarious.) And it’s been long enough since Mean Girls that they could just use the same characters. I can’t be the only person who sits around wondering what happened to the cast of Mean Girls, can I?

Clearly Regina would be the hyper-competitive sanctimommy who would manage to somehow be both a stay-at-home mom and a mom with a big, important career. (Maybe she has a smug blog about what a great SAHM she is, and the advertising revenue keeps her in Fendi purses and blow-outs?) Karen would be a ditzy but earnest parent with a bit of a crunchy streak who doesn’t understand things like sunscreen and is deeply afraid of “toxins.” (I see a fraught emotional scene where she is convinced that breastfeeding cost her the psychic ability to determine if it is raining with her boobs.) Gretchen Weiners seems like the type to turn into a total helicopter parent/tiger mom, and we know she doesn’t need to work because her dad invented Toaster Streudel.

Janice Ian would be the totally cool free-range parent, of course, and Cady would be the nice, normal parent who just wants the best for her kid and is a little overwhelmed by all the options and everything on Google.

Obviously, if there is a God then all the Bugaboos will be pink, and Amy Poehler will be attached to this project.

I’m already more excited about this than I am about the upcoming Full House reboot on Netflix.
