Jamfest Contestant With Cerebral Palsy Performs An Inspirational Dance That Will Make You Cry Happy Tears
The Latkovski sisters from Shepardsville, Kentucky are taking the internet by storm with their adorable and inspirational dance routine. It’s inspiring because the younger Grace, age nine has cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis, but she doesn’t let that stop her from doing what she loves. Grace, along with her 11-year-old sister Quincy, competed at Jamfest Super Nationals and have become a fan favorite for obvious reasons.
Both girls incorporate wheelchairs in their routine, which is performed to the song “Reflection” from Disney’s Mulan (and sung by a pre-dirrrty and ass-less chaps wearing Christina Aguleria).
This year’s Jamfest Super Nationals (which I will admit is something I never heard of before this story) was huge this year. Over 300 teams performed and there were more then 4,000 dancers. According Hayley Reyes, a Jamfest representative, “there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
Christin Latkovski, the girl’s mom, told HLN TV that Gracie chooses all their music and that music and dancing are important part of her struggle with her disabilities. Christin goes on to say that Gracie doesn’t see herself as less capable than other kids and wants people to believe in themselves regardless of their limitations.
The routine itself is beautiful. I love how Quincy doesn’t push her sister’s wheel chair, but rather Gracie is in full control and incredibly graceful. The dance is interpretive and honestly, interpretive dance usually makes me instantly fall asleep, but watching Gracie and Quincy do it is actually really beautiful.
I am always in awe when I read about kids like Gracie, who manage to stay positive while overcoming impossible odds. It seems like it would be easy to become angry, or frustrated (I know I would, I’m a total wuss), even as an adult. So to see a pre-teen kid with such enthusiasm is seriously inspirational.
