Heidi Klum Shouldn’t Have To Assure Katie Couric That She Never Cheated On Seal

By  |

First, let’s all just take a minute to congratulate Katie Couric‘s show programmers for some targeted mommy-content in the first week of her new show. Couric is obviously assuming that at-home moms are her main demographic. She has a predictable interview with Jessica Simpson coming up. She’s talking with “Mommy Porn” superstar E.L. James about her worldwide phenomenon 50 Shades of Grey in her first couple of weeks. And on Wednesday, she’ll have an interview with model mom Heidi Klum.

In the interview, Heidi addresses her ex-husband Seal‘s recent comments about Klum “fornicating with the help.” Just to remind everyone, Seal told paparazzi,

“I guess the only thing I would have preferred… [is that] Heidi show a little bit more class and at least wait until we separated first before deciding to fornicate with the help.”

He followed up that little gem by telling TMZ that now everyone had the answer to the question they’ve been asking for seven months. In other words, this issue is the reason why the couple decided to file for divorce in the beginning of the year, because Klum was cheating on her husband.

Now, Heidi Klum is opening up to Couric about the charge and defending her fidelity, though it’s sad that she needs to. The Project Runway host assured Couric, “When we were together, I never looked at another man.” It’s awful to see the couple’s relationship issues come to this after originally claiming that they were “divorcing with dignity” and putting their children’s needs first. Now, they’re playing “He said/She said” with the press.

Klum herself slid in a comment to suggest that Seal’s inappropriate statement wasn’t exactly surprising to her. She said, “It was a unique choice of words . . . I’m used to it.” Obviously, Heidi’s remark wasn’t as accusatory or overt as Seal’s, but it suggests that the musician’s temper can get away with him. Or that he’s said disparaging comments about his ex before this that just didn’t make it to the press.

I was sad to hear that this couple broke up at the beginning of the year. They seemed so genuinely committed to each other. Even their yearly vow renewals were more adorable than eye-roll-inducing. But now, I’m even more sad to see their break-up reduced to this when it seemed like they were going to have a drama-free and amicable split. These two have four children together. They have little ones who shouldn’t be subjected to their parents bickering in the tabloids.

I can understand why Heidi felt like she needed to respond to the comments. I don’t think she was trying to further the argument, I think she was trying to put it to rest. But I’m still a little depressed that it had to be discussed at all.
