Seal And Heidi Klum Divorce ‘With Dignity’

Heidi Klum divorceThe Seal and Heidi Klum divorce may have shocked fans and mere spectators after it was announced this week, but according to their joint press release, the former couple have no intentions of trashing one another in the media like many of their industry colleagues. Seal, while on a promotional tour for his next album, stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show to answer many questions about the conclusion of his marriage, telling viewers that he and the supermodel plan to divorce “with dignity.” Now that’s a phrase I could stand to hear more often from splitting couples in the media.

Seal spoke highly of his soon-to-be ex-wife, calling her the “most wonderful woman in the world.” He told Ellen Degeneres and viewers:

Our priority was to remain civil and do this thing with dignity. We still very much love each other.

He mentioned the “four incredible gifts” that Heidi gave him during their marriage, “four beautiful children” before Ellen inquired as to why he was still wearing his wedding ring.

Whether it was hard-partying or a lack of attention to childrearing that caused this split as suggested by sources, couples who go on national TV and refrain from bashing one another is a divorce narrative that could stand to be perpetuated in our culture. It may all be niceties and politeness and a show for the cameras; they could very well be tearing one another apart for all we know. But for a couple of their media exposure to not bring their proverbial plate-throwing and hypothetical name-calling to the press suggests not only a resounding respect for one another as partners, but also a higher consideration for those four little kids and what headlines they’ll encounter.

“Divorcing with dignity” may be a particularly challenging endeavor for any couple on the rocks, but for couples in the public eye with cameras and questions at every turn, it’s almost nearly impossible. Unless your Heidi Klum and Seal, I suppose.
